India- New Delhi

Here are some pictures from our trip in December 2009 to India. First stop was New Delhi. Lonely Planet pretty much sums it up when they say "it's crowded, aggravating, polluted, extreme, and hectic". But if you can survive all that, then there are some incredible sites to be seen.

Having a delicious Indian breakfast with a local street cow.

The entrance to the Red Fort (Lal Qila). It was built by (for) Shah Jahan between 1638-1648.

Inside the Red fort.

There were dozens of smaller structures inside the fort.

One of the gates of the fort.

Posing for a family picture. One unhappy baby.

Dugambara Jain Temple bird hospital.

Street leading up to Jama Masjid.

Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. Built by (for) Shah Jahan between 1644 and 1658.

Inside the mosque.

Looking down from the southern minaret.

It is made entirely of sandstone and white marble.

Skyline view of Delhi.

Roadside barbershop found on nearly every street.

Textile vender.

Ghandi smiriti, a memorial to Mahatma Ghandi.

Footsteps representing his final steps.

Spot where Ghandi was shot and killed in 1948 by a Hindu fanatic.

Night view of the Main Bazaar near our hostel.

Shigella breakfast of eggs, toast, and tea.

Sunrise over Emproer Humayun's tomb built in the mid-16th century.

Red sandstone walls and marble doorway.

One of the smaller buildings inside.

Pillars.

One of the many garden paths.

Doorway to Humayun's tomb.

Extravagent building where his tomb is housed.

Early morning stroll.

Humayun's final resting place.

Detailed stone window.

Men outside the tomb.

Women outside the tomb.
